Why do dogs jump up?
Sometimes we allow our dog to jump up for a pat as we feel it needs some love. Then when they jump up and it seems inappropriate we tell them off. When a dog becomes confused they express their stress through heightened ‘negative’ energy and this can result in anxious behaviour such as jumping. Then we tell them off more and they become even more confused. Dogs simply jump up because they can and we should teach them that they can’t, this is part of being a good pack leader.
Leader dogs are calm and consistent in their behaviour. :Leader dogs do not ignore jumping up, they deal with it! If you want to make a change and eliminate jumping you need to show your dog that you are the leader and this behaviour is not acceptable. Your dog will love you more if you show them you are taking charge and telling them how it is!
