Council Complaints – We are the experts!
Have you received a complaint about your dog from the Council? It can be very stressful when you receive a complaint and it is understandable you want to protect your beloved canine friend.
However it is important you act on the complaint immediately. We encourage you to contact the Animal Control Officer who is dealing with your case to identify the issues. If the Council has recommended a bark stop collar to alleviate the immediate problem, we would suggest you comply with their request. However it is NOT fixing the cause of the problem it is only eliminating the symptom.
To fix the cause of the problem we would highly recommend a home visit with Canine Solutions so we can identify the reasons why your dog is behaving the way it is and address these issues through practical solutions and training techniques. You will also receive a written training plan tailored to suit your dog’s needs and training goals.
Jo also writes a brief report to the Council outlining what recommendations were put into place at the home visit to resolve the issues.
If you decide NOT to address the Council complaint then you may be issued with a noise abatement notice which gives you 7 days to fix the problem. After this time period if they receive any further complaints they have the right to uplift and hold your dog until the matter is resolved. This is all outlined under the Dog Control Act 1996 (Sections 55, 56, 70).
Complete the Behaviour test so Jo can assess the best training solution for you.
Classifications - Menacing or Dangerous!
We are experts in the review process.
When your dog receives a classification of ‘menacing’ or ‘dangerous’ you are within your rights to have this decision reviewed. You must apply in writing to your local Council within 14 days of the classification.
In the application for review we would suggest you outline what steps will be undertaken to ensure your dog does not re-offend. To have your dog’s behaviour assessed by Canine Solutions is a good place to start. This will help you and the Council, assess the true extent of the problem.
The assessment process requires a home visit to identify why your dog acted the way it did at the time of the offense and resolve these issues by giving you practical solutions and training techniques. You will also receive a written training plan tailored to suit your dog’s needs and training goals.
Jo also writes a comprehensive report covering your dog’s temperament, home environment, causes for the offense and a recommended training program to resolve the issues. This will help you and the Council, feel confident that your dog is not put into a position to offend again.
While you are working through the review process your dog remains classified so you need to ensure you are actively following through with the requirements of the classification.
